Thursday 30th July 2009

The weeks are flying by. We've had a good week so far. We went wakeboarding yesterday and I even had a go at kneeboarding. It was good fun and we went with friends from church.

The boys are sooooo excited about Newday and are counting the days and hours off- less than 2 days to go now. I'm also looking forward to Faith Camp and the rest in God's presence which it always brings. We will only have a few hours turn around before we go to Switzerland early in the morning after we return from our respective camps.

Still haven't submitted my final amendments. I emailed my work to my supervisors and am awaiting their comments. I do hope I haven't got much work to do as I'm hoping to submit it tomorrow.

Psalm 42

As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?

3 My tears have been my food
day and night,
while men say to me all day long,
"Where is your God?"

4 These things I remember
as I pour out my soul:
how I used to go with the multitude,
leading the procession to the house of God,
with shouts of joy and thanksgiving
among the festive throng.

5 Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and

Proverbs 16:16

16 How much better to get wisdom than gold,
to choose understanding rather than silver!

Strange week-hectic and friendship difficulties for Rosie ( including major one with daughter of my friend who became a Christian a few weeks ago ). Girls are so different to boys. I haven't had any problems with the boys at all in the friendship department. I'm praying that things will blow over soon as I'm losing sleep about it and trying not to get too involved. Rosie doesn't appear to be bothered and has spent some time with different friends this week. However she is going to the birthday party of one of the girls involved this afternoon, so praying that she will be OK and not excluded. I am so looking forward to Faith Camp a week on Saturday when it will be just Rosie and myself and a friend and her eleven year old where we can refresh ourselves in God's presence ( the boys are away for the week at NEWDAY . We then have our family holiday to look forward to after that.

Charlie has a friend here for 3 nights as his parents are away in Belgium for the weekend. We found out yesterday that Harry passed his grade 4 guitar exam with a distinction! He is so pleased as he didn't think he did very well.

I'm still writing my amendments with great difficulty, as I've had NO time at all this week as I've been taking the children here there and everywhere. I need to work on it today. The weather is lovely again-very hot and sunny. Our friends from Cambridge are coming over tomorrow and we intend to have a BBQ.

Week-end in Lyme Regis

We have had a great relaxing week- end away in Lyme Regis. The weather wasn't brilliant but we did have a bit of sunshine and we were thankful we didn't have the rainstorms that Bedford did this week-end. We spent two days on the beach. The children went in the sea and played in the sand. We had fish and chips the first night and then ate out the second night.

The traffic was a nightmare though, taking over 5 hours to get there and over 4 to get home.

I'm now trying to get my head round the work I need to submit to complete my probation assessment. So looking forward to a mental break from it now. Two weeks to go before Faith Camp and the boys' trip to Newday in Norfolk.

Psalm 118:19-29

19 Open for me the gates of righteousness;
I will enter and give thanks to the LORD.

20 This is the gate of the LORD
through which the righteous may enter.

21 I will give you thanks, for you answered me;
you have become my salvation.

22 The stone the builders rejected
has become the capstone;

23 the LORD has done this,
and it is marvelous in our eyes.

24 This is the day the LORD has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.

25 O LORD, save us;
O LORD, grant us success.

26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD.
From the house of the LORD we bless you. [a]

27 The LORD is God,
and he has made his light shine upon us.
With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession
up [b] to the horns of the altar.

28 You are my God, and I will give you thanks;
you are my God, and I will exalt you.

29 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
his love endures forever.

Probation passed!

Yeaah I'm through! By God's grace though. I don't know how people manage to live their lives without Jesus. My viva was very intense- a full hour of questioning. The panel were really kind though and tried to put me at ease. I have to make some ammendments within the next two weeks but only 1-2 sides of A4.

Celebrating with some wine and chocolate cornflakes!

Tomorrow I'm taking Rosie and a friend to MK to look around the shopping centre. Not sure what the boys want to do.

Day of the viva

What a glorious day! I'm so loving these hot, sunny days and sitting in the conservatory eating my breakfast, looking out on the garden and reading my daily bible notes. I have got in such a routine which I will miss in Autumn. Anyway my bible notes are apt for me today:

Proverbs 15:31-32

31 He who listens to a life-giving rebuke
will be at home among the wise.

32 He who ignores discipline despises himself,
but whoever heeds correction gains understanding.

I must remember this later on today when my work is being criticised. Yesterday I read through what I had submitted, and found a paragraph which I hadn't checked properly! I must be more careful in future. I had cut and pasted so many sentences and clearly hadn't saved the correct words, so as well as a chunk of text missing it doesn't read at all. Graham tried to reassure me by saying that they might not notice- but I'm sure they will. I need to re- read everything this morning and make sure I understand what I have written. I am experiencing such a memory block at the moment that I'm not sure whether I can get through OK.

I should know by the end of the day if I go through to the second year and have passed my probation assessment.

Another lovely day. It is 9am and there are 5 children already in the house. The girls will go and play tennis and the boys on a bike ride later. Charlie is going to his friend's later before their cell group. Not sure how much work I'm going to get done today- feeling ill- prepared for my viva. Should have worked more- famous last words!

Church was great yesterday. A friend who I used to work with turned up which was a lovely surprise. We spent a lot of time at the cafe over the weekend. Yesterday we both cleared the tables and served drinks.

I have much housework to be done today following our barbecue on Saturday night. Floors to be vacuumed and washed along with sooo much ironing. My ironing mountain grows instead if shrinks. It is an aim of mine this holiday to get up to date with the ironing.

Must get off this computer and make a start on my chores before I can work.

I've had such a good week at home with the children. Charlie seems much better but is still suffering with hay fever. I don't think he had swine flu. The rest of us are ok and I'm sure if he did have it one of us would have succumbed by now.

I briefly went to work on Thursday and saw my supervisor who advised me to read some stuff before my viva on Tuesday. I must say I have had a complete break from my work over the last two weeks but did some reading yesterday and aim to do more this weekend and Monday before the big day.

The children have been busy with their friends. Harry has camped in the garden most nights and all have been out with friends. This afternoon the cafe in the park ( our outreach from church) has a fun day so we will all go to that. Tonight we're having our cell group social at our house with a barbecue. Hope the weather improves as it is raining as I write this. A Malawian minister is coming to the barbecue as he has been staying in the UK for the Newfrontiers annual conference and is currently staying with friends who are part of our home group. Should be a great weekend.

Still don't know about Charlie. He was well on Monday, back to normal and looked so much better. However, yesterday he complained of a headache and spent most of the day asleep again. I will definitely contact the surgery today if he is no better. I have an appointment to take him to see a GP on Friday for a knee problem from playing rugby, but if he has got swine flu I won't be able to take him.

Rosie has a friend here at the moment. They went to see Ice Age 3 yesterday. Last night I went to a ladies event at church and took a friend with me. She really enjoyed it and the talk was so apt.

Harry slept in the tent last night, but didn't sleep very well as Lulu kept jumping on top of it and walking around.

It looks like the nice weather has gone, but I think it is set to return later this week.

I went to work yesterday for one hour to print out some papers to read before my viva next Tuesday. I can't believe how complacent I'm being about it! I'm sure I should be more nervous. I'm just having such a nice week with the children- although concerned about Charlie's health and praying that if he is infectious that none of us will contract the virus.

School holidays begin

Have had a good weekend, although concerned that Charlie has swine flu! He was so ill in bed yesterday and slept for most of the day. By the end of the day his fever had subsided and he managed to eat a small pancake. A boy who sits directly behind him in his class went home from school on Thursday as his brother had just been diagnosed with swine flu. He is still in bed but will make the decision soon whether I need to contact our GP. I did the swine flu symptom check online last night but it was inconclusive.

Went to the church where I used to help out at the family centre yesterday to witness 7 baptisms! What an amazing service. Four of the people who were baptised I knew as clients. God has totally transformed their lives.

Must go as I can hear Charlie getting up.
